CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape has slammed police leadership in the province after yet another police officer was arrested for allegedly breaking the law.
The police officer is a court orderly stationed at Cape Town Central Police Station.
He was arrested in gang-plagued Kleinvlei over the weekend for drug possession.
The DA's Nicholas Gotsell said that this was shocking.
He called for an urgent review of SAPS staff in sensitive roles.
"What is even more shocking is that it is not the officer's first reported link to smuggling. While serving in the SAPS Metro K9 Unit, he was also implicated in illicit activity. This gross lapse in judgment has further eroded trust in the justice system, amidst a relentless gang and drug war on the Cape Flats. The DA has written to Lieutenant-General Patekile to demand an explanation."
