In a surprising turn of events, an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) councillor has moved to the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Cape Town council.
Councillor Lungiswa Ntshuntshe has traded in her red beret and was officially welcomed to the DA on Tuesday by Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis.
Ntshuntshe becomes the second opposition member to join the DA in Cape Town, following the recent resignation of ANC caucus leader Banele Majingo.

According to Hill-Lewis, Ntshuntshe expressed that she felt the EFF was "a place of ideological script reading and slogan repeating" rather than a platform for real change – something she is deeply passionate about and believes the DA delivers.
"I'd like to think it is not opportunism, obviously time will tell, but for the meantime, she's very very welcome and we're thrilled to have her."
