Body dysmorphia disorder is a type of obsessive-compulsive mental health disorder that disrupts how you see and feel about your body and appearance.
Those diagnosed with it commonly have negative thoughts and emotions about how they look.
They develop feelings of embarrassment, anxiety, depression and in some cases, suicidal thoughts.
“We have to look at the language that the person uses… It’s not just feeling unhappy, it’s the irrational perception… When everyone else looks at this person, they look ok.”
– Baatseba Mothoa, Clinical Psychologist
