947’s Robert Marawa discusses the Nedbank Cup final ticket chaos.
Listen below:
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will meet at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday for the Nedbank Cup final.
The PSL announced last week that tickets would go on sale on Monday (5 May) via OpenTickets outlets nationwide, which include Shoprite, Checkers and Computicket.
However, fans were met with disappointment and frustration throughout the day as the system encountered several failures.
Marawa was inundated with complaints on Monday as fans were stuck in online waiting rooms, stood in long queues, and even drove around to find an operating outlet.
Online system is crashing.

I tried going to buy at Checkers. System is offline. They have a big sign before u even enter that they're not selling Derby tickets. I felt defeated.
“We’ve got to understand, this is a professional sport, and this is a cup final, the venue has been chosen. You don’t want to be hearing something like this.”

OpenTickets and Computicket confirmed they were experiencing technical challenges.
“Our team is actively working to resolve the matter and restore full access as soon as possible," OpenTickets shared on social media.
The problems, however, persisted throughout the morning, and by 2 pm, tickets were sold out.
The show contacted OpenTickets for comment but has yet to receive any response.
“We reached out on behalf of the fans, so if you’re not even keen or eager to respond to fans who are going to buy tickets at your outlets, then what is the point?”

“We as fans of football deserve a little more respect.”
