This week, the United Kingdom kicked off its four-day commemoration for Victory in Europe Day.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Germany’s unconditional surrender of its armed forces on 8 May 1945.

The commemorative day started with a military procession through central London and a Red Arrows flyover Buckingham Palace airspace, with several members of the Royal Family looking on.

“I think it’s important that we all remember the sacrifices that that generation made so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we have today.”
