JOHANNESBURG - A Tshwane South African Police Service (SAPS) trainer will appear at the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Friday for a charge of rape of a trainee in the police academy.
The incident was reported to have taken place on Tuesday.
The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is providing the victim with medical and psychological support.
Speaking on behalf of the police minister, spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi said, “We welcome the swift removal and subsequent arrest of the instructor. This alleged act is not only criminal in nature, but it is a disgraceful abuse of authority, and a gross violation of the trust placed in those who are meant to shape and guide the next generation of police officers.”
