JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg City Power is threatening to disconnect power to some residents in Alexandra who allegedly failed to apply and pay for their new services.
In April, the power supplier embarked on an operation in the community to stabilise the city’s electricity grid so that they can guarantee supply for paying customers.
The metro has been challenged with increasing cases of illegal connectivity and cable theft, which have left its infrastructure vulnerable.
Utility’s spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, said they had been forced to take drastic measures due to residents' alleged non-compliance.
"A notice has been sent to the residents of River Park to do the right thing and we will be sending more to more customers, especially across some sections of Alexandra, against whom drastic actions will also be taken. Over and above the disconnection of services, legal action will be instituted against those customers without any notice."
