Protests shut down Malibongwe Drive past Dunoon

CapeTalk’s Lester Kiewit speaks with Thando Dedezane, acting ward councillor for Dunoon.

Dunoon residents are protesting after dwellings and structures on occupied land were taken down.

This has led to Malibongwe Drive going past Dunoon being closed as protesters have placed rubble and debris in the road.

Dedezane says he has spoken to community leaders to resolve the situation.

“We started with just saying, 'Can we refrain from destroying cars and delaying people from going to school?'"

He says conversations had gone well until a person was reportedly randomly arrested on his way back from work, which re-sparked tensions.
