CAPE TOWN - Cape Town's new Junior Executive Mayor is determined to effect positive change in the city.

16-year-old Michael-Daniel Bam was elected earlier this month and will serve in the position for a full year.

He says that since he was 8 years old, he has always had a passion to serve his community.

The grade 10 pupil has already established a Non-Profit Organisation aimed at bridging the socio-economic gaps within the community.

"I definitely feel the weight of the responsibility but I'm proud to carry it, I'm honoured to carry it and I feel for me the way I look at things is this is just the beginning there's so much more to do, there's a lot more than I want to do and so I don't see it as intimidating but I rather see it as fuel and inspiration to really fuel me to want to do more."

Bam added that he is currently not sure about the career path he will take, but says the call to help people will always be there.

"I definitely want to study further and continue working to make a difference but right now I'm deciding between three possible degrees either medicine, law or a TPE which is politics, philosophy, and economics."
