The renowned photographer and jazz promoter passed away on Wednesday (4 June) at the age of 74.
He helped document pivotal moments in South Africa’s journey to freedom, including the release of Nelson Mandela in 1990 and the country’s first democratic elections in 1994.
“[He] was someone who was committed to the liberation and freedom struggle of our country and our people.”

Lombard also had a great passion for music, which saw the birth of his events management company in 1997.
“The Cape Town International Jazz Festival was Rashid’s idea and he developed it in such a way that it became the most attended, grandest event in the South African calendar.”
– Sipho 'Hotstix' Mabuse
