JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police have launched a manhunt for a suspect who got away after being intercepted during an attempted kidnapping.
Johannesburg metro police stopped a car that was driving on the N1 highway on Thursday morning, before they found a woman who was captured by the driver.
The man then fled on foot near the Gordon Road off ramp, leaving the woman, who police later learned was his ex-girlfriend.
Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Spokesperson Xolani Fihla says a kidnapping case has been opened at the Florida police station.
“The driver of the Hyundai then accelerated, leading to a high-speed chase. The suspect's vehicle exited the highway at the Gordon Road off-ramp, and was successfully cornered on 6th Street in the De La Ray.”
