CAPE TOWN - The police say their recovery rate of stolen police firearms has increased drastically over the past year.
Police Major General, Leon Rabie, told parliament on Friday that police had set themselves a recovery target of 1% in the last annual performance plan, but had to revise it upwards this year because of the improvement.
Rabie was briefing the police portfolio committee today about the police’s five-year strategic plan, annual performance and their re-tabled budget.
"When it comes to the recovery of SAPS-owned firearms that are lost or stolen. Here we also adjusted the target according to the actual performance and the target has now increased to 268. That reflects a 268% target and that is a 10% increase in those recoveries."
