JOHANNESBURG - A body of a woman has been found in Mthatha, during the search for flood victims in the Eastern Cape on Friday.

The provincial government says it cannot confirm the current death toll at the moment, as the search for more missing people continues.

But in its last update, the death toll stood at 92.

Meanwhile, Premier Oscar Mabuyane has appointed Finance MEC Mlungisi Mvoko as acting premier while he takes a leave of absence.

Mabuyane says he needs to attend to some family commitments.

The heavy rains caused widespread flooding in parts of the Eastern Cape, damaging infrastructure and destroying homes.

More than 4000 people have been left displaced while more than 90 people have died as a result of the floods.

While the search continues for those still unaccounted for, members of the South African National Defence Force have joined teams as they wade through the damaged homes and collapsed trees.

The teams have also been using drones to help in the search for missing people.

And with Finance MEC Mlungisi Mvoko appointed as acting premier, the provincial government assured residents of the province they will have continued leadership and stability.
