CAPE TOWN - Activists are warning the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour after a kidnapped baby was found alive.
The infant, who was abducted at a mall in Bellville over the weekend, was discovered in Tafelsig on Monday.
Police said the baby boy was snatched by a woman who was close and trusted by his mother.
The mother, her baby, and a 37-year-old woman went out for lunch when the mother became sick, leaving her baby in the woman's care to go to the bathroom.
The director of programmes for Save the Children South Africa said people should remain alert at all times.
“We, as the community what we would like to put out there is to encourage people to be alert of any suspicious circumstances within their community. So, for example, a lady who was not pregnant or did not have grandchildren, and now you see a young child within the home.”
