WATCH: Outlander's Sam Heughan dubs Cape Town his favourite destination: 'It's perfect'
"From the ocean to the mountain, to the wildness; it's perfect", says Heughen.
CapeTalk's Clarence Ford speaks to Barbara Friedman about trending online stories.
Listen below:
Sam Heughan is best known as the star of Outlander, the historical drama that’s becoming a global phenomenon. Based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling novels, the series blends romance, adventure and time-travel against the backdrop of Scotland’s most breathtaking landscapes.
After the final season of Outlander wrapped recently, Heughan featured on a popular podcast, The Travel Diaries, hosted by British-American journalist Holly Rubenstein, where he revealed his favourite holiday destination: CAPE TOWN!
While Scotland might be something to look at, for Heughan, Cape Town, specifically the wine country of South Africa, is top tier.
"From the ocean, to the mountain, to the wildness, it's perfect", Heughen said.
Heughen says a day in his life in Cape Town looks like waking up to get coffee, walking up Lion's Head, and heading out to a few of his favourite places. To that list he adds the Franschhoek and Stellenbosch vineyards, Babylonstoren, and Cape Point because you can see 'the two oceans meet' - same, Sam, same!
Heughen also gave Capetonians praise for being warm and welcoming, while the Cape's incredible food, such as sushi, steak, and of course, our quintessential and very lekker braai, also got a shoutout for being 'special'.
