Ultimate survivor and motivational speaker Alison Botha, who lived through a brutal attack and rape in 1994, has become a beacon of hope in South Africa through the years.

In October last year she suffered a setback and had to be hospitalised for a brain aneurysm.

This followed the release of her two attackers on parole in July 2023, which has since been revoked.

After a months-long period of silence, Alison has posted an update on her new journey of recovery.

While she knows from experience that she WILL recover from this too, Alison writes, 'I need to accept that it takes time'.

She apologises for 'being extremely slow' to deliver her latest update, and acknowledges that she is going through a rough patch.

"To be honest, and as a positive person and an inspirational speaker I find this hard to admit, I can't even inspire myself at the moment which is very frightening."
Alison Botha

This brings Alison to the kind of positive message she's become known for, as she encourages the rest of us to get through our own bad times.

"Lovely, special people - may whatever you are going through be short-lived and may you take courage from the fact that it is only a 'patch'.  What is wonderful about a 'patch' is that you enter on one side - often unexpectedly - but if you keep going - despite the weight and depression of it."

"Take heart', she says, 'and keep moving':  Joy, enthusiasm and happiness are at the other end of the patch.

'I WILL be ok!', this incredible woman concludes.

So, if you are experiencing difficulties, DO take heart from Alison's words of encouragement.
