CAPE TOWN - An organised crime investigation has led to a massive drug bust in Goodwood, where two suspects - one from Tanzania and the other from Burundi - were arrested after being caught with drugs worth an estimated R54 million.
Police say the suspects are due in court on Tuesday after being nabbed in Goodwood on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie says organised crime detectives acted on information which led them to a residence in Molteno Street in Goodwood on Sunday.
Pojie says a 32-year-old Tanzanian man was arrested after officers initially confiscated six kilograms of heroin found in a cupboard.
He says more heroin was found in another room, which led to the arrest of a 28-year-old man from Burundi.
"The members expanded the search, leading to the discovery of 145kg of tik and 16kg of heroin found in the roof of the residence. The estimated street value is R53,3 million, bringing the total value of the discovery to R54.3million."
Pojie says the arrests form part of an investigation by provincial organised crime unit detectives.
