JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) said preparations were on track for the party’s elective conferences at Gauteng municipalities earmarked for August and September.
During the conferences, ANC structures in Johannesburg, Tshwane, and Ekurhuleni will elect new regional leaders.
In Johannesburg, Mayor Dada Morero is seeking re-election as the ANC’s regional chairperson, while Ekurhuleni Mayor Doctor Xhakaza also wants to retain his position.
ANC provincial co-convenor, Hope Papo, said the party’s branches were currently undertaking a foundational course, which was a requirement to qualify for the conference.
"The discussion also focused on four ANC regions: Tshwane, Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Sedibeng, which are preparing for their respective regional conferences. The report detailed a relatively good process of political education. The rollout of the ANC’s foundational course across branches remains a cornerstone of the renewal agenda."
