JOHANNESBURG - The Johannesburg High Court is expected to deliver judgment in the case of a former preschool teacher accused of rape and murder.

Amber Lee Hughes is facing charges related to the death of her four-year-old stepdaughter, Nada-Jane Chalita.

She was arrested in 2023 after the little girl’s body was found floating in a bathtub in the house she shared with her father and stepmother.

It’s understood that Chalita was left in the care of her stepmother on the day she died.

The former preschool teacher who was romantically involved with the child’s father was allegedly the last person to see her alive.

Hughes was later arrested in connection with the crime.

She has pleaded not guilty to all counts.
