Two hundred FlySafair pilots have gone on strike after the company and Solidarity failed to reach an agreement on wage increases.

The pilots are also protesting a change in the rostering system from an open roster to a fixed roster, and concerns around leave pay.

The strike will last for two weeks starting from Monday, 21 July.

Du Plessis says FlySafair is refusing to engage with Solidarity any further to find a common ground.

He also says the airline has been disingenuous in reporting what the pilots at FlySafair are earning and only sharing the top captain salaries.

“They are giving a totally skewed version.”
- Gideon du Plessis, General Secretary - Solidarity

According to Du Plessis, disinformation about the strike shared by FlySafair has led to additional pilots joining them, which is why flights had to be cancelled.

“All that FlySafair is busy doing is creating enemies of their pilots.”
