South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Adv Andrew Chauke has been suspended with immediate effect pending an inquiry into his fitness to hold office.

Chauke has been accused of mishandling high profile corruption cases over several years.

These include malicious prosecution of the Cato Manor case, mishandling of state capture cases and attempting to not prosecute former crime inteliligence boss, Richard Mdluli.

The most recent case Chauke is being investigated for is the withdrawal of charges in the Zizi Kodwa matter.

Chauke cited ‘representations’ made by the former minister as the reason for the withdrawal, but these have never been seen.

“You have the evidence here but don’t actually act and suddenly withdraw the case. It made no sense.”
