JOHANNESBURG - Two suspects have been arrested and a major document fraud syndicate dismantled in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, following an intelligence-driven operation carried out by the police service.

Through the operation named Cyclone 2, police uncovered 42 fake IDs, six ID smart cards, passports and driver's licence cards and SIM cards.

Police also found Umalusi national senior certificates, motor vehicle license disks, laptops, printers, external hard drives, as well as other electronic devices.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Amanda van Wyk, said that Operation Cyclone 2 was targeted at tackling crime and criminal syndicates operating within the communities of Soshanguve, Jukulyn, Mabopane and Hammanskraal.

"These arrests and seizures highlight our commitment in targeting organised crime and document fraud. The swift response of various specialised units, underpinned by sound intelligence gathering, has ensured the rapid arrest of the suspects and the recovery of critical evidence that will aid in ongoing investigations."
