CAPE TOWN - After a shooting near a Lotus River primary school on Thursday afternoon, police will be patrolling the area on Friday morning while learners make their way to school.
A warning sent to a community on a WhatsApp group informed parents of possible retaliatory attacks near the school.
Police in the area then requested that schools close early as a safety precaution.
Police officers patrolled the Lotus River area for most of Thursday afternoon to ensure public safety.
EWN understands that some parents were advised not to sign their children out of school but many worried parents decided to do so anyway.
One community member, speaking on condition of anonymity, told EWN that the area was quiet for the past few weeks until Thursday morning.
"It was flaring up all over, except Lotus River. Ottery, Parkwood, wherever, other areas, but not for us. So this was like really, for us it was taking us back again where we were a few months or a year ago."
She said that some parents were hesitant about sending their children to school on Friday.
