The City of Tshwane is pleading with residents in Pretoria CBD and surrounding areas affected by a power outage to be patient as repair works continue.

Businesses and homes in the area were plunged into darkness on Thursday following a case of theft and vandalism on electrical infrastructure.

The city said the damage caused extensive disruption to the electrical supply.

The metro's spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo, said they cannot confirm when power will be restored.

"The damage, which occurred yesterday, led to a power outage affecting the Pretoria CBD, Kgosi Mampuru II correctional centre, Pretoria West Industrial and nearby communities. The city is pleased to report that materials have already arrived on site, and preparatory work is underway to expose the damaged cables and joints."
