Elevating contemporary menswear, from Cape Town to Joburg

Fields, a menswear label, founded six years ago in Cape Town, has opened its Johannesburg outpost at 44 Stanley.

The original store is located at the Biscuit Mill in Cape Town. The goal of this new site, according to Mikael Hanan, the brand creator, is to spread a vibe.

"We wanted to extend that space here in Joburg, having this high volume, having this beautiful light, this feeling of Cape Town, bringing it to Joburg."

Fields was founded with the goal of using natural fibers to create high-quality, modern menswear using local products.

Hanan believes that their dedication to origin and quality is what distinguishes them from larger high-street businesses.

"First of all, I believe the production is of higher quality, the Merino wool that is used is sourced in South Africa ensuring that wool comes from local farms with a progressive approach," he said, drawing a distinction between their strategy and that of competitors that normally use blends of cotton and poly.

"We are only using cotton, for example, in our T-shirts, in our trousers."
