Day two of the Gauteng provincial joint traffic operations is underway, and motorists across the province are urged to plan their routes carefully.

Major road closures are in place in Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, and Tshwane as authorities prepare for the upcoming G20 Summit, set to take place at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg.

The R21 between Johannesburg and Pretoria is closed, and motorists are advised to use the M57 instead.

The R512 and N1 are also affected, and drivers can take Beyers Naudé Drive as an alternative.

The R24 and N12 routes are also closed, and Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla is urging drivers to be patient on the roads.

“Within Sandton/Rosebank/Parktown, use side streets parallel to Jan Smuts, Oxford, or Rivonia Road. Corlett Drive, Sandton Drive, 11th Avenue. In southern Johannesburg, Riverlea, Nasrec and Ormonde View, use Chris Hani Road, Main Reef Road, Crownwood Road [Fordsburg–Crown Mines], Soweto Highway, N17.”
