Cape Town based Skateboarder Ethan Cairns rolled his way to the top spot at Red Bull Spot Check, winning both the overall South African title and the coveted golden ticket to an international skate event in 2026.

"I honestly didn't expect it at all," Cairns said.

"I simply wanted to have fun and skate every location as well as I could. It was incredible and incredibly motivating to skate among all the international pros. From beginning to end, the intensity was insane."

Eyewitness News had a chat with Jamie Foy from South Florida, USA, before the event.

Foy said his skating journey began at a very young age.
"The entire journey has been an emotional roller coaster in the sense of constantly pursuing your passions. It will always put you to the test, you know. However, the fact that I am here is one of the best things about skateboarding.
"I'm where I am today because I've made a lot of wonderful friends and connections via the skate world, and I've just stayed loyal to myself, my skateboarding, and just working as hard as I could. Thankfully, I'm enjoying myself with my friends while simultaneously striving to be the best skater I can be."

Florida native Zion Wright said that he was thrilled to be part of the event and to be in South Africa.

"These events, in my opinion, are crucial for the kids and the community to be able to come out, get up close and personal with us, and realize that we are just regular people. Furthermore, the fact that we perform at such a high level does not negate our ability to simply participate, engage with others, and return the favour," he said.

"Today, there will be no barricades and we will be in the streets with all the children. Everyone will be hanging out, signing things, and taking pictures with us. We will be signing documents. Because there are so many people, it's not quite one-on-one, but it's still a pleasant experience where you don't just get to view us from a distance. You are welcome to visit, spend time with us, and enjoy yourself. And I'm eager to see how the skaters perform and how the city turns out."
