Alleged crime boss Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala returns to court on Monday, where his 11 attempted murder cases will be centralised in preparation for trial.

Matlala is accused of organising a hit on his socialite girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane, and also faces 10 other attempted murder charges for other high-profile people like taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni and Seunkie Mokubung, known as DJ Wetties.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) wants to centralise all the cases and try them as a single matter.

Matlala’s previous court appearance was in October at the Johannesburg High Court, where his bail application was denied.

At the time, Gauteng’s NPA spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane, characterised Matlala as a dangerous man.

“We are of the view that the court made the right decision in denying Mr Matlala bail, considering the severity of the charges and the risk to public safety as well as law enforcement officers, including the investigating officers and the prosecutors involved in this matter. The judgment proves once more that, as the NPA, we cannot rest on our laurels but must continue working tirelessly to ensure justice prevails.”
