An international women's rights activist said the world's governments must take responsibility for ignoring the plight of women and girls in Afghanistan.

Women's rights activist Malala Yousufzai said the plight of Afghan women is part of a global fight for human rights.

As the world marked International Human Rights Day this week, a tribunal on Thursday ruled that there is clear evidence that women are being denied human rights in Afghanistan.

The tribunal, convened by a coalition of Afghan civil society organisations and the Permanent People's Tribunal, reported its findings at The Hague on Thursday.

“Governments must take responsibility for their role in creating the conditions that allowed the Taliban to return... even allowing the circumstances like a ban on girls’ education for more than four and a half years. Afghan women have done everything to demand justice. Now it is time for governments to show the same courage,” said Yousufzai.
