ActionSA in the eThekwini Metro has tabled a motion to compel the municipality to act swiftly on issues related to undocumented foreign nationals.
The party wants the government to implement what it has termed "stricter measures" on undocumented migrants.
It has invited other parties in the council to support the motion during a meeting on Tuesday, where it is set to be debated
Party provincial leader and councillor Zwakele Mncwango said, “Communities across eThekwini Municipality are raising serious concerns about the impact of illegal immigration on safety, local economic participation, and compliance with by-laws. There is a growing perception that the eThekwini Municipality, government departments, and other relevant stakeholders are not acting with the urgency required.”
Mncwango said recent attempts to challenge the issue have been futile.
“Civic organisations such as March & March and Operation Dudula have attempted to raise these issues through lawful marches, yet responses from those in executive authority have been inadequate.”
