With this being the first DA congress since the party entered national government, the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Delegate and DA Member of Parliament (MP) Billy Mzamo said the newly elected leadership will have the tough task of ensuring the party grows it's influence in national government.

“The DA has got to position itself to take up more governance in the country, in municipalities, so this congress becomes very important for the party, and we are certain the outcome of it will help strengthen the organisation.”

Throughout the venue, supporters of candidates have been in high spirits.

A Solly Msimanga supporter said, “Fearless, honourable, most energetic, Solly Msimanga for federal chairperson.”

An Ivan Meyer supporter said, “Vote Ivan Meyer for integrity and good leadership.”

Voting for new leadership will take place on Sunday.
