With just a few months left until he goes on pension, suspended SAPS district commissioner for Sedibeng, Abraham Nkhwashu, says he is embarrassed to be spending the twilight of his career being linked to criminals.
Nkhwashu is currently testifying before the Madlanga Commission on allegations he used his position to try and shield suspected crime cartel boss, Katiso 'KT' Molefe, from arrest.
It’s been alleged that Nkhwashu tried to take control of a police docket relating to a murder case, which Molefe is linked to.
Nkhwashu, who is due to retire in July this year, says he has never been involved in any criminal activity during his more than 39-years in the police service.
“I feel very embarrassed to be associated with criminals, but not as a fault of anyone else but myself. I am putting it to the community that I am accountable for, in accordance with the constitution of this country. I am not a criminal, I don’t associate with the so-called cartels, I don’t.”
