JOHANNESBURG - The KwaZulu-Natal transport department said that six people were killed in six separate crashes on the province's roads during the Easter weekend.
This is three times less than the number of fatalities seen during the same period last year.
The latest figures are part of the early statistics reported by officials after the Easter break wrapped up on Monday.
Spokesperson for the KZN transport department, Ndabezinhle Sibiya, said that motorists caught driving drunk and speeding remain a challenge.
"We recorded more than 14 arrested for drinking and driving, more than 24 arrested as they had outstanding warrants of arrest and more than 77 cars impounded during the Easter weekend," said Sibiya.
