After latest mass shooting, KZN govt calls on Umlazi communities to speak out against crime

JOHANNESBURG - The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government is calling on communities in Umlazi, south of Durban, to speak out against crime following yet another mass shooting.

Eight people were shot and killed while two others sustained injuries at U-section in Umlazi, south of Durban.

It's believed that unknown gunmen opened fire on a group of people who were sitting and drinking in an informal settlement on Friday night.

Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli visited the scene in the area, which had experienced a mass killing back in 2022.

"The issue of mass killing cannot be ended if the community themselves they don’t stand together and speak out, to say in our community these are the individuals who are problematic because it is common cause that where there’s much crime in an area the criminals known by the community, they are only not known by the police," said Ntuli.
