Debate is raging over what action President Cyril Ramaphosa should take following damning allegation made against his police minister Senzo Mchunu.
In a move that sent shockwaves countrywide, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi on Sunday identified a man allegedly linked to Minister Mchunu as central to meddling in police cases.
According to Mkhwanazi, Brian Mogotsi, known as 'Brown' is a close associate of the police minister and has been linked to interfering in high-profile police matters and fueling tensions.

"A lot of speculation saying the President is likely to offer a judicial commission of inquiry. Lots of back and forth about, does he suspend everyone involved?"

Madia says the President has not been resting on his laurels and has walked straight into the crisis upon his return from Brazil.
"What we do know is that he has been meeting with some of them. He came back from BRICS in Brazil and literally got into meetings."

Madia says ANC members are divided over whether or not Mchunu ought to be suspended pending further investigation into the allegations.
"Even those who defended him, when they say him releasing a statement to clarify his relationship with Brown Mogotsi and Cat Matlala, people were quite upset with that."

Madia says some feel that Minister Mchunu had, by releasing the statement, defied the President who had previously asking for restraint.
It was confirmed this week that three parliamentary committees will probe the allegations made by Mkhwanazi.
