[BOOK REVIEW] The End of Money: 'We revert to anarchy when trust breaks down'

Stephen Grootes interviews Bronwyn Williams of Flux Trends, who reviews 'The End of Money' by David Buckham, Robyn Wilkinson, and Chris Straeuli.

Listen below:

'The End of Money' looks at how trust in Western banks and markets has broken down and how China’s banking system is quickly rising in its place.

It explains how past mistakes led to today’s problems and why this matters now more than ever.

"... [a book about] what we get when trust breaks down."

But the book also critiques Asian markets.

In essence, says Williams, the book is an accelerated history lesson with a little bit of futurism thrown in.

"A sort of fast track recap of the last 100-ish years when it comes to money, whether it's the people who look after it - our banks - or the people who regulate it or fail to do so - that is our governments."
- Bronwyn Williams, Flux Trends
"And what happens when the trust in the systems that underpin our entire global economy, but also critically our social contracts... [breaks down]."
- Bronwyn Williams, Flux Trends
"We revert to a state of nature, to anarchy [when trust breaks down]."
- Bronwyn Williams, Flux Trends

The End of Money is published by Jacana and retails for R345.
