Boyes Drive has been closed to traffic after a fire broke out in Table Mountain National Park.

The fire started above Boyes Drive on Sunday morning, spreading towards Kalk Bay and St James.

Multiple firefighting teams from SANParks, Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS), and the City of Cape Town Fire & Rescue were sent to the scene.

In a 1:30 pm update, SANParks said all available resources are being deployed in active suppression efforts, with a primary focus on keeping the fire ABOVE Boyes Drive.

Then, the fire was approximately 90% contained.

Later on Sunday afternoon a flare-up was reported on the Peck’s Valley side of Table Mountain National Park, with Boyes Drive remaining closed.
