CAPE TOWN - Cape Town Tourism said BT Travel, the company which arranged a recent botched football tour to Spain, could face termination after being suspended.

The company was officially suspended this week after arranging a football tour to Spain, which left 34 young footballers and four coaches stranded.

Three junior teams were left stranded for more than a week after the BT Travel and BT Football Academy failed to book return flights.

Cape Town Tourism CEO Enver Duminy said BT Travel, which is the trading name for BT Shuttle and Tours, has been suspended from operating as a precautionary measure.

"We have officially suspended the member benefits for BT Shuttle and Tours, noting that the recent incident and the significant harm it caused is a violation of our terms and conditions as per our code of conduct for all our members."

Duminy said BT Travel's owner, Brandon Timmy, was given the right of reply before a final decision was made.

"This matter will continue until the board makes a final decision around possible termination. However, we also need to comply with our constitution and be fair and transparent in these dealings, and we're hoping to resolve the matter as quickly as possible.

Timmy has indicated he will provide a statement related to the ordeal in due course.
