The Money Show's Stephen Grootes interviews Group CEO Bertina Engelbrecht after the Clicks Group posts its half-year results.

Health and beauty retailer Clicks has reported strong earnings growth for the six months to end-February 2025.

Group turnover increased by 6.2% to R23.2 billion.

Retail turnover - excluding Unicorn Pharmaceuticals, sold in the previous financial year - grew 8.3%.

Diluted headline earnings per share (HEPS) jumped by13.2%, and in line with that Clicks declared an interim interim gross ordinary dividend of 238 cents per share, an increase of 13.3%.

The group plans to open 45-55 stores and 45-55 pharmacies for the 2025 financial year and says it remains committed to its medium-term target of 1 200
stores.

At the same time, it warned of a constrained trading environment over the next six months.

Stephen Grootes asks Group CEO Bertina Engelbrecht about their recipe for increasing sales.

A focus on elevating the customer experience has paid off, Engelbrecht says.

"We work a lot on making the shopping journey much more effective for the customer. We did a health elevation in 80 of our stores and that's proven to be so successful we're going to roll that out to another 50 stores."
"In beauty, it's the same principle of elevating the customer experience.  We've put in place fragrance counters... moved skincare further forward within the stores..."
"Those elevations have a phenomenal impact on turnover."

Clicks ClubCard also grew its active loyalty membership to 12.1 million, adding over 1 million new members in the past year.

"ClubCard is such an important consideration - I mean R438 million was returned in cash back rewards over the past six months!"
