The DA has tabled motions of no confidence against Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero and Council Speaker Nobuhle Mthembu.

The party has accused the pair of turning the council into a ‘political playground', and says they have contributed to collapsing service delivery in the province.

The motions will be debated at a Johannesburg City Council meeting this week.

Kayser-Echeozonjoku says the preparations for the upcoming G20 summit have highlighted how far things have fallen in Joburg, and how much needs to be done.

She adds that the mayor has chosen to deploy a ‘bomb squad’ to the city instead of holding the existing officials to account, which is a waste of ratepayers’ money.
