Ex-cop appears in Bloemfontein court on charges of human trafficking, rape and attempted murder

JOHANNESBURG - A former police warrant officer appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on charges of human trafficking, rape and attempted murder.
A multi-disciplinary team led by the Hawks' crime investigation unit arrested the former officer, along with two other men on Monday.
The 26-year-old victim alleges that in July 2022, she saw an advert for a job as a bartender at a certain gentleman's club in Bloemfontein.
She started talking to the club owner, who made arrangements for her to be transported from where she was in Ventersburg.
A few days later, the owner and a driver brought her to Bloemfontein and she was taken to a house of one of the accused, where she was allegedly drugged, sexually assaulted and repeatedly raped by a group of men.
She further alleges that one of the suspects took pictures during the ordeal.
The 26-year-old managed to escape and reported the matter at a nearby police station.
Police are searching for a fourth suspect linked to the case.
