Rashid Lombard was a renowned political photojournalist during the 80s and 90s and the founder of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival.
Throughout his career, he captured and documented the struggle against apartheid in South Africa.
Lombard passed away on Wednesday at the age of 74.
Jason says Lombard was a person who was always moving and always working hard to help his community.
“You would never see Rashid walking slowly.”
- Fanie Jason, South African photography icon
He adds that all of Lombard’s children emulated their father, and his legacy can be seen through them.
Lombard spoke with CapeTalk’s Pippa Hudson in 2022, discussing some of the high points of his career and his donation of an archive of his work to the University of the Western Cape.
“The past governs the present and the future. A lot of people forgot about the past.”
