JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police are investigating the death of African National Congress (ANC) Tshwane councillor, Thabang Masemola, who was fatally shot in Mamelodi East on Tuesday night.
Police said that the 36-year-old was attacked by unknown gunmen driving a white Nissan Almera.
No arrests have been made yet and investigations are underway to determine the motive of the killing.
Masemola was the Tshwane municipality's ward 36 councillor, covering some blocks of Soshanguve.
ANC Tshwane spokesperson, Bafuze Yabo, said that Masemola was a bright young councillor whose future in the public service had been cruelly cut short.
"It is quite disturbing that the spate of killing of councillors is not receding at a quick enough pace and is getting more worrisome, because many of these cases are never resolved, with no successful arrests and convictions made. The ANC Greater Tshwane Region implores law enforcement agencies to investigate the killing of councillors by bloodthirsty killers."
