JOHANNESBURG - National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has warned against scammers who charge applicants for job postings in the police service.

Masemola was speaking during a media briefing in Johannesburg on Friday.

Masemola cautioned people against paying anyone to be placed into the South African Police Service (SAPS) training programme, stressing that there was no fee required to join the service.

“We warn scammers not to try their luck, because we have in the past apprehended two civilians that were found to be offering aspiring applicants jobs in the SAPS for a fee.”

Masemola said this as the SAPS will, at the end of June, advertise for 5,500 police trainees to join the service.
