Rental deposits can sometimes be horror stories, as not every tenant-landlord story is a pleasant and mutually beneficial one.

IOL News recently reported about a tenant who spent nearly R1 million renovating a unit that the landlord ended up selling for R3 million.

The tenant went to court over claims that a verbal agreement was established that he would put in an offer to purchase once his financial position allowed.

The tenant lost their case, and reimbursement was denied.
