June is recognised as Pride Month internationally - an annual commemoration that recognises members, supporters and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Research from the BMJ Global Health Journal shares that children with queer parents fare as well as, or better than, children with parents of the opposite gender.

So, how do you navigate parenting in a same-sex household?

947’s listeners share their experiences…

“Mother’s Day is a little bit contentious because the school will still do Father’s Day cards… it goes to the grandfather. [My wife and I] have been together for 15 years, our daughter is five… she was conceived through artificial insemination. Father’s Day, they normally have a get together at the school, one of us will always ago... and we are not treated any differently.”
– Bianca, 947 Listener
“I am the biological father to my son Aaron, he came to live with me when he was seven… he’s now 31. He and his partner have the most beautiful little girl… and my partner and I are both 'granddad' to her… what’s interesting is that kids just kind of accept you as you are.”
– Owen, 947 Listener
“Me and my wife have been together for 15 years… it was my dream to have a child of my own, so we also went through the whole procedure of artificial insemination, unfortunately, it was negative. A friend of ours offered to be a donor, and our baby girl is beautiful.”
