Cape Town-based startup Loop has clinched the Pitch Den Award at Africa Tech Week, standing out among seven of the continent's most promising tech companies.
Held in Cape Town, the event brought together leading innovators from across the continent, all focused on using technology to solve pressing challenges.
Loop has designed a WhatsApp-based payment system that lets users pay or get paid instantly, without any fees or extra apps.
Loop CEO Imtiyaaz Riley said they're "not just digitising payments, they're rewriting how value moves in communities that have long been excluded".
“Our win at Africa Tech Week is more than a trophy, it’s a signal that Africa is ready for real, homegrown innovation," he added.
Loop explained that its focus is to help small businesses and transport operators move away from cash and into the digital economy.
“This recognition strengthens our resolve to scale meaningful tech across the continent,” Loop said in a statement.
Loop has plans to expand across Africa.
