June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about the daily challenges men face while encouraging more men to seek help.

“South Africa is ranked 10th globally in terms of suicide rates, and a large percentage of those suicides are men.”
– Nasreen Cariem, Occupational Therapist

Cariem recommends regularly checking in with the men in your life.

Normalise an open and supportive line of communication.

“Men always are expected to show up and be the strong ones… Meanwhile, we all know that they are as human as can be and that there are so many mental health issues that they are facing as well.”
– Nasreen Cariem, Occupational Therapist

If you are looking for resources or someone to speak to, consider contacting a therapist or psychiatrist.
