JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Military Veterans said it will resume the rollout of the military veterans' pension once a review process is completed.

This follows concerns raised by a group of approximately 300 military veterans about delays in receiving their money.

The department said its current challenges are linked to budgetary constraints.

As a result, it said the regulations governing the disbursement of the military veterans' pension need to be reviewed.

The department's Mxolisi Mkhonza said the benefit is a vital intervention aimed at restoring the dignity of those who served the country.

"Since the implementation of this benefit in November 2023, over 4,378 military veterans have successfully received their military veterans' pensions.

"The department continues to work closely with the Government Pensions Administration Agency to process and pay new beneficiaries as they are verified."

This week, Minister of Defence Angie Motshekga tabled a reduced budget of R57 billion, raising concerns over how financial constraints continue to affect defence operations and planning.
