Noordhoek resident Karoline Hanks has just completed an incredible feat of endurance.
The runner set herself the goal of summiting Cape Town's iconic Chapman's Peak enough times to match the height of Mount Everest at 8,849 metres of elevation.

Hanks completed her Chappies 'Everesting Challenge' over more than 30 hours, tackling the route up and down repeatedly for 13 exhausting laps.
It's all in aid of raising funds for Project Noordhoeked, a grassroots organisation she runs along with another local resident.
"Congratulations to Karoline! She pulled it off, 31 hours and 27 minutes; 106 km and a height of almost 8,850 metres of climbing."

"She struggled with fatigue and some icy winds - an incredible achievement!"

Hanks told CapeTalk during a pre-challenge interview that she would just have to 'vasbyt' - and that she did, with the help of the beautiful environment and supportive friends.
'What a buzz', she wrote on social media, adding though that the route was brutal, 'with the concept of repetition always plays tricks with the mind'.
"But the 30-plus hours shot by, and I was always held in the bosom of that goddess of a mountain... And friends came out of nowhere… cheering, hugging my stinky self, handing me hot cappuccinos or quietly dropping off bags of smoothies and vegan bars and coconut water."

Ayliffe notes that the BackaBuddy page Hanks started is still open if you'd like to back this milestone achievement and support Project Noordhoeked.
